The world is a big place for holiday goers, with amazing beaches, islands, mountains, forests and deserts making for natural wonders that will leave you dumbstruck. While urban holidays have become a thing for a lot of people (most travellers baptise in Eurotrips and Dubai sojourns), camping out in the lap of nature is still popular with families and solo travellers looking for rest and rejuvenation. Here is a list of some of the most exotic places to holiday in the world:

1. Uganda Safari

Uganda is not a very popular tourist destination, but being home to the famous mountain gorillas, the country offers a unique experience for the international travellers. The country is your quintessential African province, with naturally rolling hills broken by huge lakes, and tropical forest cover hiding some of the most loved animals in the world. Wildlife tours in Uganda are especially popular with tourists who make it to the country, with bird watchers also in for a treat. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is by far the most important of all wildlife tours, and watching these primates in their natural habitat is once-in-a-lifetime experience. And the habitat itself is scenic by any standards, with amazing waterfalls and mountains adding value to the tours.

2. Fuerteventura

Perhaps the most amazing of the Canary Islands, this island has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The place has loads to offer to tourists. There are plenty of long, sandy beaches here that are known for being deserted for most part of the year. You are in for quite a shock if you see a vulture here because the island is one of the two last surviving places where the Canarian vulture is found. The trade winds and the storied Atlantic winter swell makes the island’s many beaches great for surfers. The island became deserted in the 60s, but since the rise of tourism, it has started growing again. The 819 metres Cardon and the attractive coast line are not something you will forget if you visit the island

3. French Polynesia

The Pacific islands are located in the middle of nowhere between the American state of California and Australia. You will find the most exotic beaches and bays in the islands of this archipelago, that range from volcanic islands with rugged peaks to low lying islands. The most famous islands are the Bora Bora that are part of the Society Islands. The main island is completely surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef, giving the island an otherworldly look. The abundance of coconut trees almost plays into the familiar stereotype for these islands, but the abundance of aqua resorts that exude luxury will quickly establish the islands as being extraordinarily tourist friendly. The extinct volcanoes at the center of the island are also a great attraction.

Whether it is the islands of Pacific/Atlantic, the northernmost cities of the Arctic or the Uganda adventures of Africa, one has to make sure to visit at least some of the places on this list in their lives for stories to tell their children. So pack your bags and leave now on your sojourn.

What’s the deal with raclette? If you’ve heard the word before, but you’ve never had the chance to find out more about the cheese itself or about the Swiss tradition, in general, this article will shed some light on those aspects and more.

The tradition

Many Switzerland rural residents, as well as Swiss herdsmen, used to place a block of semi-hard cheese in front of a fire or a cooking heart and then wait for the cheese to melt. As it slowly did so, they scraped off the melted parts and added it to their main dish. You can eat virtually anything with melted cheese, as most people know that already, but this rule also applies in the case of this special cheese.

The neatest thing about the practice is that only some part of the block would melt, which meant that the diners would have to wait for a bit to enjoy their meals, instead of gobbling it down in a hurry. The practice was mostly used for bonding and other social purposes as it involves a relaxed dining atmosphere.

How has eating raclette changed?

There are two ways of enjoying a meal of raclette nowadays. You can get a unique raclette melter and scrape the melted parts much like the herdsmen we were mentioning earlier on used to do. On the other hand, you can get a raclette machine. This nifty gadget is, in fact, a grill that has been fitted with several components which allow the diners to cook their own food. The plate on the top can be made of stone or Teflon that was covered with a non-stick coating.

Under the main grill component, you’ll find several mini trays that are used to melt individual cheese slices. What makes this type of appliance so appealing? Well, in a nutshell, it involves the entire family or friends that have gathered around the table. The grill on the top can be used for preparing anything from meat to veggies, and one can also use pre-boiled potatoes.

Once the cheese has melted, it can be added to the dishes and the mini-trays can be filled time and again. On the one hand, this dining practice makes it easier for the cook to deal with the whole dinner preparation, because he or she doesn’t have to run from the kitchen to the living room all of the time, to bring all sorts of extra dishes.

Everything is conveniently placed at hand, and best of all, everyone can choose his or her favorite meal and indulge in it at a comfortable pace. Because the entire raclette tradition is based on a relaxed atmosphere, the diners will finally have the chance to have a nice talk, discuss the weather, or any other recent events they might be interested in.

On top of that, raclette grills usually come with variable heating, which means that the elements can be heated separately. The top-tier can be used for cooking veggies and meat instead of just warming them up, but it needs to be capable of producing enough heat for that.

Location of Vythiri resort, Wyanad.

The Vythiri resort is situated in a dreamy location, on the slopes of a mountain full of tropical forest.

Once you book your weekend stay there, I assure you that you would extend your stay for a few more days.

Types of accommodation at Vythiri Resort.

  • Vyrhiri Haven comprises of several independent and spacious cottages. One of the photographs of this particular accommodation shows a few chairs placed on a small wooden sit-out and the view from there is something out of a film-set. You see a mountain stream which is at a touching distance and the rainforest beyond it.
  • Pool Villa

As the name suggests, these pool villas come with your own private swimming pool. There are two bedrooms-one for the elders and one for the children. There are only three pool villas.

  • Honeymoon pool villa

The floor of the main bedroom is made of glass! These villas are duplex that comes with a private pool and a lovely verandah overlooking the rainforest.

  • Tree House

Undoubtedly, this would be my choice of accommodation in a rainforest. The tree houses are accessed through a wooden bridge that is hung on giant trees and a mountain stream flows below. You will feel like a bird perched high up on a tree that is surrounded by more trees.
