Hieronymus Bosch: Fantasy

This detail is from a painting that is considered one of Bosch's richest and most puzzling paintings. The painting has the biblical theme of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, but the playfullness and sensual appeal of the garden upstages any moral message. There seems to be an orgy of sorts going on with couples, giant fruit, animals, and flowers. He had a wild imagination and expressed it in fantasies of stroking a giant fruit, dancing inside an owl, and residing with several others under a bird feathered magical hat.
