Louise Bourgeois: Nature Study

Nature Study
Pink Marble
1984-94, 87.6cm x 44.5cm x 38cm

This sculpture is a masterpiece of the artist's concern with the body. The many cumbersome breasts and the dog-like pose indicate obsession with sexuality, mothering, and limitations of the body. She says about her artwork, "It is not an image I am seeking. It's not an idea. It's an emotion you want to recreate, an emotion of wanting, of giving, and of destroying."
