The
Abduction
Oil on Canvas
1867: 35 1/4" x 41 1/2"
Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK |
| This
painting, made in 1867, is an early painting by Cezanne, before
he had developed his mature style. His brush work is laid in patches,
in impressionist style, dabs of color create an exciting painting.
His later brushwork was to become much larger, wilder, and free.
One can see his skill in drawing, his interest in color, form,
and shape, but The Abduction is more realistic and narrative than
his later work. |
