made many paintings that were self portraits of himself. This portrait
was made in his mature style, with patches of red on the nose,
cheek, and ear. He does not blend the red paint, to hide the brush
mark, but leaves it as evidence of his hand mark. His beard and
face could be a mountain in a landscape, as much as a depiction
of the artist. |
