Jacob's Dream

1954-67 oil on canvas 1.95 x 2.78 m.

This is one of many paintings by Chagall that illustrate stories from the Bible. Many of the Biblical subjects are painted in magnificent colors: Song of Songs in reds and pinks, Adam and Eve Expelled from Paradise in greens and golds, and this one of Jacob's Dream in the most brilliant of blues and gold.
