Jean-Honore Fragonard
Swarm's of Cherubs
Oil on Canvas |
|
'The cherubs
dominate the sky, tumbling softly through the clouds like balls
of pink and white cotton wool' They are ornaments with little
religious significance, and the pictures title, equating cherubs
with children, denotes the fine line which Fragonard has happily
crossed between religious symbolism and a purely decorative art.
