Francesco's
paintings can be frightening and psychological, with their multiple
selves, in this painting, popping out of the sensory orifices
in the face. It feels like being trapped, in many different ways,
from different sensory locations, perhaps a metaphor for unconscious
memory.
It was Freud who
explained scientifically about the different selves that are part
of the human experience and it seems that Clemente has captured a
visual image of the many parts of the self, and the rather confused,
horrified person, who is called by one 'name,' trying to make sense
of himself. |
