Senecio
Oil on Canvas Mounted on Panel
1922, 40.5cm x 38cm
Kunstmuseum, Basel
This
portrait is sometimes called Head of a Man Going Senile, which
gives you an idea of Klee's sense of humor. Klee admired primitive
art as well as children's art. In this portrait one can see the
influence of African art, the African mask in particular. Klee uses
color boldly in this painting with bright oranges, red, and yellows.
He was clever with shapes and you might notice how one eye brow
is drawn while the other raised eye brow is merely a triangular
shape. |
