Joan Miro: The Village

The Village
Oil on Canvas
1917, 65cm x 72cm

This is an early painting by Miro, with brilliant color and imaginative design. The Village is pictorial and narrative, with a foreground of brilliantly striped hills, and a village in the background against a purple sky. The fantastic shapes of the bushes and trees are imaginative like Miro's work that would follow. Ten years later, Miro's paintings became more abstracted but with the same imaginative hand painting the canvas with brilliant colors.
