Elizabeth
Murray began making shaped and sculpted canvases out of wood
in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. These are her most exciting
and original work, where her cartoon shapes reached out into
space and became fantastical paintings. Influenced by Picasso
as well as cartoon shapes of Disney, one has to look closely
to see a face, an eye, hands of a clock, as well as at least
one arm and ear. |
