Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles

Oil on Canvess
72 x 90 cm
Arles: October 1888
Amsterdam: Van Gogh Museum

In the spring of 1888 Van Gogh moved from Paris to seek a simpler, more productive existence in faraway Province, in the town of Arles. During the year spent in Arles Van Gogh established a consistency of style and technique and a clarity of vision in his painting that defined his creative personality ever since. He made masterpieces one after the other in breathtaking succession. Van Gogh painted The Bedroom with its dramatic perspective, inspired brushwork, and brilliant color from his room in Arles.
